Abstract Zoonoses discussed in the light of the literature are brucellosis (contagious abortion in cattle), Q-fever, toxoplasmosis, leptospirosis, tuberculosis, Salmonella and Escherichia coli infections. There is now a greater awareness on the part of the health professions and management in the meat industry of the hazards of occupational exposure to zoonotic diseases.
