Title Delayed neurotoxicity of organophosphorus insecticides

Abstract This review covers leptophos, tri-o-cresyl phosphate, mipafox and cyanofenphos. Some organophosphorus insecticides produce not only acute toxicity via inhibition of cholinesterase but also characteristic delayed neurotoxicity. Mipafox, leptophos and cyanofenphos have been shown to have such specific toxicity. Hens are the most suitable animal for experiments because of their high sensitivity to the neurotoxicity. Toxicity was markedly intensified in hens by subdividing oral administration of a single dose. This method is highly useful in finding pesticide with delayed neurotoxicity.
