| Abstract |
Lifting devices for laying large-diameter concrete pipe can be classified by gripping principle or application. Devices may hold pipe positively by virtue of their shape (C-hooks, wire rope slings, anchors in the pipe itself); or by force (tongs, vacuum grippers, magnets). The applicability of a given device depends on whether the pipe will be guided by workers in the excavation or from the edge of the trench, and on the amount of space available around the excavation. The most reliable devices are those that positively secure the pipe on all three axes. |
