Abstract This practical guide is addressed to general practitioners, occupational physicians, works physicians, first aiders, nursing staff and safety personnel in the undertaking. Analytical description of the working environment, specific role of each individual intervening, means of intervention and equipment available, ongoing training and retraining of personnel, organisation of emergency treatment. Measures to be taken in the event of external bleeding, respiratory or cardiocirculatory distress, coma, shock, bone or joint injury, burns, wounds, poisonous bite or stings, acute poisoning with industrial products, psychiatric emergencies, and large-scale accidents, are described.
