Abstract These directives have been elaborated to prevent serious lung impairment (e.g. oedema) in workers who accidentally inhaled toxic, irritant or otherwise harmful gases. Sections cover: rules for first-aid personnel (complete rest for victim, removal of polluted clothing, no smoking, corticoid inhalation, etc.); rules for emergency treatment; rules for the transport of the injured; surveillance of workers who may have been exposed at the same time; therapy. A set of transfer cards and a list of substances which may cause pulmonary oedema are appended.
