| Abstract |
The leg-shoe-floor system in humans is studied together with the kinematics of walking and the importance of sole-floor friction as the determining factor in foot adherence. Measuring equipment and methods are described, as are the characteristics required of equipment for measuring forces transmitted from the sole to the floor surface. The report also covers: development of new measuring equipment and modification of existing equipment; non-slip characteristics required of footwear soles; measurement of friction between sole and floor surface. The concept "non-slip rating" is proposed and defined; it permits simple presentation of the friction measurements which are given for various sole and floor covering materials. |
