Abstract Report on the results of compound-noise studies on gear hobbing machines, circular saws, grinding machines and drilling machines (a total of 116 machines). Sections deal with: description of the principles of noise analysis to DIN 45635; technical data and operating conditions of the machines in relation to the noise levels they produce; determination of representative values and noise threshold limit values. In view of the large number of machine types and the wide range of machine performance, it is not justifiable to lay down an overall noise limit value. Technical specifications must be known if achievable noise limits are to be laid down. Sound power produced by machines depends, in particular, on machine performance and not on machine type.
