Abstract Review of the various types of tranquillisers and beta-blocking agents, their therapeutic application and their effects - especially in combination with alcohol. These agents produce generalised sedation and, consequently, a drop of vigilance and reactivity which may result in an accident. It is this danger that lies behind the related recommendations or restrictions on the driving of vehicles or machinery. Results of statistical analyses on the relation between the use of these pharmaceutical agents and occupational accidents, and on the incidence of their use.
