Title Acute hazards of explosive gases, their detection and control
Bibliographic information Jan. 1981, Vol.34, No.1, p.1-14. Illus. 7 ref.
Abstract Diagnosis and control of explosion and fire hazards due to methane, forecasting of methane emissions, and the control of underground fires in situations where methane is known to be present are discussed in terms of the responsibilities of the ventilation department. Quantity surveys for methane, the interpretation of these surveys and the advantages of continuous monitoring and ventilation are considered. The problems are related to conditions in coal and gold mines. The sources of hydrogen in mines and the associated hazards are also discussed.
