Abstract Brief data on the effects of certain industrial chemicals on reproductive function in women and on the health status of children. Substances dealt with: lead, mercury, cadmium, vanadium, carbon monoxide, benzene, carbon disulfide, methyl chloride, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, dimethyl formamide, vinyl chloride, tetrachlorodibenzodioxin, pesticides (chlorinated hydrocarbons, organophosphates, carbamates), polyhalogenated biphenyls, anaesthetics, oestrogens, tobacco. Findings presented are those taken from animal experiments and from cases of occupational or non-occupational poisoning.
