Abstract A study of existing Federal and State regulations and an evaluation of the magnitude of safety problems based on accident data and case records for the period 1972 to 1976 were used to identify significant hazards and as a basis for recommendations to reduce accidents. Recommendations are made for revised regulations and the promulgation of standards in: education and training; protective headgear; medical screening; scaffolding; safety nets.
