Title Exposure to organic solvents - A cross-sectional epidemiologic investigation on occupationally exposed car and industrial spray painters with special reference to the nervous system.
Bibliographic information Dec. 1980, Vol.6, No.4, p.239-273. Illus. 86 ref.
Abstract 80 spray painters with long-term low-level exposure were compared with 2 reference groups of 80 controls. Studies included psychiatric interviews, psychometric tests, neurological, neurophysiological and ophthalmological examination, and computed tomography of the brain. There were statistically significant differences between exposed workers and controls for psychiatric items relating to neurathenic syndrome and psychometric tests (reaction time, manual dexterity, perceptual speed, short-term memory). Most neurophysiological parameters measuring peripheral functions showed significant differences. Some differences were found in the results of ophthalmological examination and computed tomography. Exposure levels were well below Swedish exposure limits.
