Original title Les accidents par privation d'oxygène en milieu de travail à pression atmosphérique normale en 1980. [in French]

Abstract MD thesis: technical data on accidents due to oxygen deficiency (physico-pathological mechanisms, occupational categories exposed, circumstances in which such accidents may occur, symptomatology); consequences of hypoxia on pulmonary ventilation, cardiovascular system and nervous system; studies of 16 incidents (involving 88 fatalities) which occurred in different countries during the last 20 years. An aetiological investigation enables the possible causes of these accidents (which occurred in metal caissons and in underground work) to be determined. Review of French regulations on this subject and preventive measures (monitoring of workplace air, ventilation, breathing apparatus). Role of the occupational physician.
