| Abstract |
This article considers respirators used in industry, mainly from the viewpoints of: qualification for the Factory Inspectorate certificate of approval; and choice of equipment (proper fit, industrial operations for which respirator is intended). Types of respirator as specified in British standards: general purpose respirators; positive pressure, powered dust respirators with dust hoods and blouses; high efficiency respirators (against highly toxic particulates and radioactive substances); face masks (half-mask, full facepiece, or mouthpiece and noseclip); canister respirators; breathing apparatus (fresh-air hose, compressed-air line, or self-contained). List of regulations for approval of different types of respirator. A specimen certificate of approval (with 1980 additions) is appended. Reference to pertinent British standards. |
