Bibliographic information May 1980, Vol.22, No.5, p.342-346. 2 ref.
Abstract An integrated health programme at 2 remote communities of some 2000 people is described. Vital statistics of the worker communities and their families are given. 85% of the labour force is local. The health division is divided into departments of sanitation, medicine, nursing, nutrition, and dentistry. Great importance is attached to environmental sanitation. No case of manganese poisoning has occurred in the 21 years of operation of the mine. The methods of dust control employed, and some of the findings of examinations of workers, are described. Other aspects discussed are malaria, pulmonary tuberculosis, leishmaniasis, and pterygium control.
