Abstract The study abstracted under CIS 80-459 was extended to a total of 156 patients with acute non-lymphocytic leukaemia (ANLL). Clonal chromosomal aberrations were significantly more common in exposed than non-exposed patients: 76% of exposed, 32% of non-exposed. 9 of the 12 patients with normal chromosomes were exposed to petroleum products or their combustion residues; 32 of 34 patients exposed to chemical solvents and insecticides had abnormal chromosomes. Possible causes of conflicting results with other studies are discussed. Prospective studies are in progress.
