Abstract A description of the course of the disease and how it is acquired is followed by considerations on preventive measures (eradication of brucellosis from the national herd, training for awareness of workers and supervisors), and a list of minimum requirements to be observed in these factories (identification of brucellosis-reactive animals and separate slaughtering of these animals, disinfection of vehicles which have transported them) and in abattoirs (separation of "clean" cattle from brucellosis reactors; disposal of udders and supermammary lymph nodes and contaminated parts of carcass, evisceration methods; hermetically sealed containers for condemned material); warning colours (red, green) for offal areas; handling of condemned material; hygiene rules for maintenance workers; protective clothing and gloves when handling hides and hooves.
