Abstract Comparative study of several types of Polish safety shoes and one French model. Tests for compliance with standards were carried out on various materials used for manufacturing soles, and on finished shoes. The articles were also subjected to performance tests during in-plant use, principally to determine the maximum duration of their working life when in constant use. Analysis of the results showed the superiority of the French shoes (better oil resistance of the soles, lighter in weight and more supple, and longer-lasting). Recommendations for manufacturers of safety shoes for workers in contact with petrochemicals (methanol, motor fuel, petroleum, benzene, toluene, oils, etc.).
