Abstract It is recalled that cigarette smoke contains some 750 toxic chemicals in the form of particulates or gases, and that their effects are added to those of industrial pollution (risk of chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, byssinosis, silicosis, siderosis, asbestosis). Anti-smoking campaigns should be organised in the foundry, metalworking, textile, asbestos and other industries.
