Abstract This guidance note gives information on: properties; chemical formulae; TLVs (0.02ppm for toluene diisocyanate and diphenylmethane diisocyanate, and other aromatic isocyanates, 0.01ppm for isophorone diisocyanate, in the United Kingdom); determination of environmental levels; toxic effects; handling of isocyanates; protective clothing; medical supervision of workers and first aid; statutory requirements; descriptive list of 5 types of isocyanate compounds and of 5 other isocyanates; industrial uses; toxic hazards and precautions to be taken in manufacturing processes for foam block, flexible foam (flame bonding), moulded articles, polyurethane foam, etc.) and use of urethane rubbers, polyurethane paints and lacquers, printing inks, adhesives, and foundry core binders.
