Abstract This publication contains the working document prepared for a meeting of experts convened by the International Labour Organisation (Geneva, October 1977). The report of the meeting is also reproduced. Occupational activities in the industry are divided into: construction activities, petroleum-related activities and diving activities. Safety and health problems (drilling, fire and explosions, noise, toxic substances, diving hazards, etc.) are examined, with a review of relevant national and international activities, standards, etc. Statistics for the industry are given.
