Abstract Fire safety and housekeeping requirements in woodworking shops necessitate the installation of efficient exhaust systems for sawdust removal. This booklet reviews the basic aspects of aerodynamics and examines the present day state of the art regarding various exhaust ventilation systems for the removal of sawdust and wood chips, and their performance (fans, exhaust ducts and hoods, dust collectors). A section devoted to storage bins considers fire hazards in the industry and arching of bulk materials. Other chapters deal with exhaust ventilation systems (with concrete examples) and equipment required for exhaust removal of small-size particles.
