Title N-Nitrosodiethanolamine in synthetic cutting fluids - A part-per-hundred impurity.
Bibliographic information Apr. 1977, Vol.196, No.4285, p.70-71. 20 ref.
Abstract N-Nitrosodiethanolamine (NDE) was found to be present in a concentration of 0.02-3% in several brands of synthetic cutting fluids. Its identity was confirmed by 3 independent techniques, which are described. NDE has been shown to produce liver tumours in rats. It is expected that most cutting fluids that contain triethanolamine or diethanolamine and nitrite as additives will be contaminated with NDE, and screening of all brands of synthetic cutting fluids is recommended.
