| Abstract |
This yearbook, the third of the series, aims like its predecessors to give information on the state of the art of tunnelling. In a handy pocket-sized format, it constitutes a practical reference work covering a wide field. The chapter on trenching and excavating gives information on working methods, testing and calculation of stability of walls, and examples of calculations. Two chapters are devoted to tunnelling by open excavation, and underground and underwater tunnel construction (materials, prevention of water infiltration, calculations). Overview of all types of tunnelling equipment used in Europe, with information on the scope and nature of their use, and listed technical data. Other subjects covered: geological prospection, fibres used in the production of fibre-reinforced concrete, explosives. The pertinent safety regulations and standards are either referred to or reproduced in full. |
