Title Reduction of noise during grinding of sheet metal and sheet metal structures

Abstract The composition of grinding noise depends on the type of drive, the tool and the workpiece. Possibilities of reducing noise by modifying work methods or use of an alternatve method are set out. Measures involving the workpiece include laying it on a solid support, use of permanent magnets, use of plastic matting and immersion in water. Measures involving the tool relate to: grain size and hardness of the wheel binder, modification of design incorporating absorbing layers (plastic-impregnated fibres). Analysis of possibilities of modifying high-speed drives, especially that of the fan wheel, are analysed. A large place is given to discussion of the machine and economic aspects.
