Abstract |
The present standard and test methods for safety footwear are desribed and assessed. Several models of shoes were impact, compression, metatarsal performance and puncture tested. It was recommended that the toe impact classification should be increased; the compression classifications are sufficient. The metatarsal programme showed excellent correlation between the test methods, as did the puncture programme. Accidents to the feet are described and some statistics on foot injuries are shown. A new machine was designed to perform toe impact and compression, matatarsal impact and puncture resistance tests. |
