Abstract This report deals with almost the whole field of activity of H.M. Factory Inspectorate (excluding the construction industry). Contents relating to occupational safety and health: accident experience 1972-1976; the impact of safety policies and their implementation; trade union involvement with safety and health at work; management training and involvement; activities newly brought within the scope of protective legislation by the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974; occupational health (carcinogens, toxic metals, arsine, chlorine, isocyanates, asbestos, cotton and allied fibres, silica and other dusts, noise and vibration); foundries (machinery guarding, diecasting, molten metal explosions, occupational health); plant and process hazards; mechanical and electrical hazards; lifting equipment, materials handling, working platforms; reports of the Railway and Explosives Inspectorates. Appendices: accident statistics for 1972-1976, prosecutions in 1976, etc.
