Abstract Results of a study of the frequency and severity of occupational accidents and diseases in the personnel of non-university hospitals in France from 1970 to 1974. Infectious diseases head the list (9.9% of workers). The most frequent is viral hepatitis (6.5%), occurring especially in biochemical laboratories in proportion to the number of examinations performed. This is followed by tuberculosis (1.8%); overcrowding of the laboratories and the small space allotted to laboratory staff appear to play a role in transmission of the disease. Comparison with other studies. Preventive measures.
