Abstract |
Cholestyramine is an anion-exchange resin that binds chlordecone. It was given for 5 months to 12 workers who had been exposed to chlordecone during manufacture, while 10 received a placebo. The toxicity and modes of elimination of chlordecone before and after therapy are reported. Cholestyramine significantly accelerated elimination of chlordecone from blood and fat. The treatment offers a practical means of detoxifying persons exposed to this and possibly other lipophilic toxins. |
