Title Treatment of chlordecone (Kepone) toxicity with cholestyramine - Results of a controlled clinical trial.
Bibliographic information 2 Feb. 1978, Vol.298, No.5, p.243-248. 24 ref.
Abstract Cholestyramine is an anion-exchange resin that binds chlordecone. It was given for 5 months to 12 workers who had been exposed to chlordecone during manufacture, while 10 received a placebo. The toxicity and modes of elimination of chlordecone before and after therapy are reported. Cholestyramine significantly accelerated elimination of chlordecone from blood and fat. The treatment offers a practical means of detoxifying persons exposed to this and possibly other lipophilic toxins.
