Title Long-term work stress in teachers and prison guards.

Abstract After bringing out the similarities in the psychological aspects of these occupations, this article reports on studies in 31 teachers and 21 prison guards. The process of stress development is studied in detail. Recommendations include improvement of managerial practices, provision of resources such as specially trained persons to help workers suffering from stress, sabbaticals, change of occupation, councils of co-workers, and information of workers in stressful occupations.
