Abstract Results of clinical and EEG examinations in 60 workers having symptoms of carbon disulfide poisoning; these results show a close correlation between the clinical findings and the EEG tracings. EEG changes showed preferential lesions of the limbic and reticular systems. As compared to disturbances of the hypothalamus of different aetiology, the authors observed a predominance of low-frequency β rhythms, increasing in intensity according to chronicity of poisoning. They therefore came to the conclusion that EEG changes of this type constitute a compensation and adaptation mechanism accompanying brain damage.
