||Results of an occupational safety and health survey carried out in Sweden to evaluate the effects of exposure to lindane in various conditions and to compare these effects with those of DDT (the use of which is now prohibited). Determination of lindane concentration in air and in the blood showed that lindane spraying in greenhouses resulted in severe exposure, whereas exposure was moderate during the semi-enclosed process of tunnel spraying and was insignificant during dipping treatment and planting out of treated seedlings. Short-term exposure to dry lindane powder gave rise to high blood lindane levels; suitable preventive meaures are recommended (local exhaust ventilation, personal protective equipment, etc.).
