Title Occupational exposure of petrol pump workers.
Bibliographic information Dec. 1975, Vol.18, No.4, p.363-364. 9 ref.
Abstract Environmental and biochemical tests were carried out in 21 filling stations and among 51 filling station attendants in the Lucknow area in India to determine the risks attached to the handling of petrol in hot weather in a tropical country. The findings are compared with those of similar surveys conducted in temperate countries. It is concluded that exposure to benzene (the petrol contained 10-17% benzene) is hazardous in hot weather and that the workers concerned should be informed of the toxic nature of petrol vapours and the need to avoid inhalation.
