Title Vital capacity and one-second forced expiratory volume in Australian male asbestos cement workers.
Bibliographic information Sep. 1975, Vol.18, No.2, p.133-141. Illus. 7 ref.
Abstract The effect of asbestos exposure was studied in 955 asbestos-cement workers, and a considerable influence on the relationship between age, height, vital capacity (VC) and one-second forced expiratory volume (FEV1) found. The VC and FEV1 were not significantly lower than those of non-asbestos workers, in respect to the exposed group as a whole, but became so when the latter was divided up into 5 exposure categories, as is shown in a detailed statistical analysis. Smoking did not affect the VC and FEV1.
