Title Occupational radiation exposure due to 222Rn in natural gas and natural gas products.
Bibliographic information Nov. 1975, Vol.29, No.5, p.681-687. Illus. 16 ref.
Abstract The author identifies possible occupational exposure pathways to 222Rn and its daughters in the natural gas industry and reports on the results of his studies at 9 natural gas processing plants in the USA. The main conclusions of his survey are that while both internal and external exposures to the radiations from 222Rn and its short-lived daughters do occur, the magnitudes of these exposures are not serious. There appears to be a potential hazard of exposure to long-lived radon daughters built up on the internal surfaces of processing equipment (pumps) when such equipment is being dismantled for maintenance purposes.
