Abstract |
The author provides several examples to demonstrate the need to control noise from fluid-dynamic sources in power plants (steam turbines; gas turbines; boiler feed pumps; electric motors; fans, blowers, compressors; transformers; cooling towers; steam converters; pressure reducers; safety valves; pipes and fittings). The advantages and disadvantages of primary and secondary noise protection measures are compared. Primary noise protection requires understanding of the mechanism of noise production. Fluid-dynamic noise production is reviewed, and examples of control measures and application of the model technique to the solution of noise problems in power plants are discussed. |
