Title Fluid-dynamic noise sources at power plants: Noise production - Noise protection
Original title Strömungstechnische Lärmquellen in Kraftwerken: Schallentstehung - Schallschutz [in German]
Bibliographic information IHZ-WK-74-24, Ingenieurhochschule Zittau, Theodor-Körner-Allee, 88 Zittau, German Democratic Republic, Nov. 1974. 35p. Illus. 5 ref.
Abstract The author provides several examples to demonstrate the need to control noise from fluid-dynamic sources in power plants (steam turbines; gas turbines; boiler feed pumps; electric motors; fans, blowers, compressors; transformers; cooling towers; steam converters; pressure reducers; safety valves; pipes and fittings). The advantages and disadvantages of primary and secondary noise protection measures are compared. Primary noise protection requires understanding of the mechanism of noise production. Fluid-dynamic noise production is reviewed, and examples of control measures and application of the model technique to the solution of noise problems in power plants are discussed.
Descriptors (primary) airflow noise; thermal power stations; noise control; hydrodynamic noise
