Abstract The major hazards associated with the use and maintenance of offset printing machines are mechanical (crushing and shearing). During normal operation, all moving parts (rollers, pinions, connecting rods, etc.) must be rendered inaccessible by barrier guards (fixed and mobile grids, hoods) connected electrically to the control circuit. In the event of manual operations on the rollers, it should be possible to set the later in motion only by simultaneously and continuously actuating two push-buttons placed one on each side of the operator. Further, particular hazards exist according to the material to be printed (metal or cardboard), e.g. spray of anti-offset powder. Health hazards are benzene poisoning, dermatosis and noise.
