Title Effects of wind on the dust and benzene-soluble matter captured by a small sampler.
Bibliographic information Feb. 1975, Vol.17, No.3-4, p.187-195. Illus. 8 ref.
Abstract When dust is collected by means of filter holders quite low winds can cause serious errors. Collection efficiencies are presented for a filter-holder dust sampler at present in wide use at British coke oven plants. When the holder faces the wind, efficiency increases with particle size up to 15µm. Efficiency falls with increasing particle size when the holder is side-on to the wind. In the industrial situation studied the benzene-soluble matter measurements were subject to less error than the total dust, but such errors must be borne in mind when measurements with small filter holders are interpreted. Some determination of the wind effect in a particular sampling situation is desirable.
