Abstract The authors analysed periodical health data from 70 farmers who had been engaged in spraying pesticides from tractors for 3 years. The occurrence of acute intoxications and of low serum cholinesterase levels during the spraying seasons were significantly less than during the period before 1970, when the Government suspended the use of the highly toxic compound parathion. A significant increasing trend in the incidence of dermatitis due to pesticides was however noted.
