Abstract Results of chromosome studies performed on cultures of peripheral blood from persons suffering from acute phosphoric acid ester poisoning. Blood samples had been taken both during the period of intoxication and 1 and 6 months later. The rate of chromatid breaks, acentric fragments and stable chromosome aberrations (deletions, translocations) was significantly high during the intoxication phase and 1 month later. No definite correlation was found between the frequency of chromosome alterations and the severity of clinical manifestations. Chromosome aberrations were most frequent in cases of thiophosphate poisoning.
