Abstract Up to the present, industrial premises have been primarily planned with a view to increasing production. There are, however, many microclimatic, social and psychogical problems in a work environment which have a direct impact on the design of industrial buildings. The object of this thesis is to provide theoretical and practical aids for creating a work environment which fulfils the needs of those who work in it. To achieve this, direct co-operation between designers and users is paramount. The means required for designing ideal work environments and the design principles are dealt with and illustrated by practical examples. (A 6-page summary in English is appended).
