Abstract A set of 5 lectures. The purpose of this series was to explore the use of epidemiological surveys generally, and specifically the Oxford Survey of Childhood Cancers, in evaluating the hazards of ionising radiation. The limitations and the advantages of epidemiological approach are presented and indications for its use discussed.
