Abstract An account of a study to improve working conditions in a microwelding operation which was physically excessively demanding on the operators. The rationale and practice of the solutions developed for this work station (anthropometric data, physical accommodation, seats, elbow and foot rests, reach distances, illumination and visibility, work space and storage, etc.), the construction of a prototype and the results obtained are discussed in detail.
