Title Engineering and metallurgical problems in the operation and maintenance of high pressure gas reformers.
Bibliographic information Technical Report, British Engine Boiler and Electrical Insurance Co., Longridge House, Manchester M60 4DT, United Kingdom, 1972, Vol.XI, p.5-32. Illus.
Abstract A description of some of the problems encountered in the operation and maintenance of high-pressure steam/naphtha reforming plants for the production of town gas in England since the mid-1960s. Individual sections are devoted to: corrosion/erosion problems in pipework, vessels and heat exchangers, and the results obtained by corrosion/erosion protection measures in stainless-steel pipework and stainless-steel lining of vessels and heat exchangers; creep failure and stress fatigue in reformer tubes, and the repair and modification of these tubes; age hardening in outlet headers and the replacement of centrifugally cast tube headers by a wrought material of improved ductility.
Descriptors (primary) steam vessels; material failure; gas industry; corrosion
Descriptors (secondary) stress fatigue; creeping; corrosion protection; reforming; age hardening
