Abstract |
A description of some of the problems encountered in the operation and maintenance of high-pressure steam/naphtha reforming plants for the production of town gas in England since the mid-1960s. Individual sections are devoted to: corrosion/erosion problems in pipework, vessels and heat exchangers, and the results obtained by corrosion/erosion protection measures in stainless-steel pipework and stainless-steel lining of vessels and heat exchangers; creep failure and stress fatigue in reformer tubes, and the repair and modification of these tubes; age hardening in outlet headers and the replacement of centrifugally cast tube headers by a wrought material of improved ductility. |
