Abstract Sucupira (Bowdichia nitida Benth.) wood which had caused eczema in a cabinet maker, was analysed to isolate the pathogenic constituents; 3 quinone fractions produced allergic reactions of varying severity on patch testing; one was identified as 2,6-dimethoxy-p-benzoquinone. Skin testing with dalbergiones confirmed that the subject was also allergic to Brazilian rosewood dust.
