Abstract Paper read at the 12th Congress on Occupational Safety and Health 1971 in Dusseldorf. The most common accident causes in a metal heat treatment shop are reported, and safety measures and equipment considered. Particular reference is made to salt baths, the use of gases in carburisation and hardening, carburisation powders, quenching equipment, fire hazards and their elimination.
