Abstract This report describes a new acoustic intensity mapping system, consisting of a portable computer equipped with a high performance sound card, a probe equipped with a position location system and a digital camera. Reliable, innovative and cheap (CAD 30,000), this system is an alternative to existing acoustic diagnostic equipment, which is generally costly and complex, and for which data interpretation requires advanced training. Easy to use in an industrial environment, the computer generates a colour map superimposed on a photograph whose red zones identify the sources of noise. The system requires little technical knowledge by the user.
