Abstract In 2004, Staffordshire University delivered the National Population Database (NPD) for use in estimating populations at risk under the Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations (COMAH, see CIS 06-515). In 2006 an assessment was presented to HSE concerning the updating and potential improvements to the NPD. In 2008, the implementation of the feasibility report led to the creation of National Population Database 2 which both updated and expanded the datasets contained in the original NPD. This report describes the work undertaken for updating the population database.
