Abstract This report presents a summary of the research undertaken during a project entitled "Improved generic strategies and methods for reliability-based structural integrity assessment". The research covers a wide range of topics including: the development of improved methods of reliability analysis which can be easily linked with standard methods of advanced structural analysis; a detailed study of the variability of fatigue crack growth in structural steels and the implications for fatigue reliability analysis; developments in the use of reliability updating techniques in relation to the prediction of fatigue failure; applications of structural system reliability analysis to the behaviour of a North Sea jacket structure; and the development of a methodology for the reliability-based fracture assessment of pipelines containing cracks.
