Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the obstacles to the return-to-work of persons having experienced mental health problems and extended absenteeism, and to design a diagnosis tool in the form of a physician-administered questionnaire, entitled "Diagnosis of the work handicap situation" (DWHS). A prototype of the DWHS was evaluated by clinicians. Findings are discussed.
